Jevon Baskerville
educator for norfolk school board
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader."
-John Quincy Adams
Jevon Baskerville is an educator, organizational leader, and longtime Norfolk resident running for the Ward 5 seat on the Norfolk School Board because he believes our schools need leadership focused on results, accountability, and measurable improvement for every student. While no longer a K-12 classroom teacher, Jevon continues to impact education through his work in training, workforce development, and organizational strategy—helping people and systems perform at their highest potential.Known to many students as “Mr. B,” Jevon built his career on mentorship, leadership, and service. From the classroom to higher education and organizational development, he has earned a reputation for professionalism, innovation, and empowering others to succeed. His unique blend of classroom experience and systems-level leadership gives him a practical understanding of how school board decisions directly affect students, educators, families, and the future of Norfolk. At the core of Jevon’s leadership philosophy is a simple belief: better outcomes require better strategy. He believes that meaningful progress is achieved when decisions are guided by relevant, accurate, and measurable data. Data reveals strengths, identifies opportunities, measures effectiveness, and helps leaders make informed decisions that create sustainable results. While vision is important, Jevon understands that vision without strategy often falls short. Real progress comes from smart policies, effective practices, clear accountability, and measurable goals.Jevon’s vision for Norfolk Public Schools is centered on academic excellence, smarter resource management, educator support, transparent governance, and equity with measurable outcomes. He believes accessible and equitable opportunities for all students will make our schools better. Increased support, resources, and competitive compensation for teachers and staff will make our schools better. Improved curricula, policies, and governance will make our schools better. And stronger collaboration among parents, educators, city leadership, and the broader community will make our schools better. As Norfolk faces challenges including school consolidation, declining enrollment, aging infrastructure, and budget uncertainty, Jevon is committed to helping the division move forward strategically, sustainably, and together. He believes that no matter how we define “better,” improvement requires intelligent strategies, strong systems, measurable outcomes, and leaders willing to make decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions. His goal is not simply to manage challenges but to help change the narrative surrounding Norfolk Public Schools through innovation, accountability, and results-focused leadership.A Norfolk resident for more than a decade, Jevon graduated from Old Dominion University, where he served in several student leadership roles. He has since held leadership positions with the Urban League of Hampton Roads Young Professionals, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and the WHRO Community Advisory Board, and currently serves on the Mayor’s Housing Commission Subcommittee for Equity and Community Engagement. He is currently pursuing a dual Master's and Doctorate degree in Business Administration and Leadership.Jevon is also the owner of Baskerville Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in leadership development, branding, and organizational effectiveness. A devoted Christian and member of Calvary Revival Church, he is also a musician, mentor, former worship leader, and lifelong learner. While he cannot promise specific outcomes, he believes that with innovative thinking, data-driven decision-making, and a commitment to accountability, Norfolk Public Schools can move from good to better—and from better to its very best.
